Introduction to the earth dorms Empty
PostSubject: Introduction to the earth dorms   Introduction to the earth dorms EmptyWed Apr 08, 2009 12:32 am

Brief description of dorm:

To the Southeast end of campus is a two story building, plain looking, aught for the round windows and main doors. Through the main doors is an enormous, comfortable-looking commons area. Plush brown carpeting, thick, squishy chairs and couches in tones of neutral green and brown, and an enormous fireplace with ancient, elaborate stone set into the back end of the dorm. The fireplace is lit and warm, and several students head towards it to get a bit warmer, as the nighttime had cooled considerably more than it was earlier during the daytime. On either side of the fireplace are two staircases leading up to the second floor that overlooks the common area and the balcony area is set up with couches and chairs also, for comfort. Several of the older looking upperclassmen head up those stairs and through the doors on either side, obviously to head to their dorms. On the first floor there are also two doors on either side, one to the north and one to the south. At the north is the Ansuz wing, with the sigil for Ansuz marked on the door, and to the south is Raido, the sigil for Raido marked on that door, but the common looks so inviting and warm, will you stay or will you go?

Quote :
Ash is led with Earth House from the manor off to the south before banking east towards a two story building in the distance, not too far, but it was a good stretch from the sitting of earlier. The House is comfortably earthy, coming in through the doors is a large lounging area, complete with a warm fireplace, some study tables, and some dark nooks to simply curl up and hang out in. Couches and chairs and sofas litter the carpeted room en masse and the colors are all in greens and browns and small touches of orange. On either side of the commons is two doors, one with the right ways Ansuz rune on it, and the other with the Raido rune printed on it. The Master points to the doors and speaks, "Your dorms are through there, the commons are here, you can do homework, and whatnot here. Feel free to linger here if you like, or go to your rooms, your things are already there." He turns then and pulls out a tile, "To open the doors, place your tile against the door and it will allow you inside and the tile will become a key." He says and takes his leave of the students.

He would move into the earth common room with the rest of the earth dorm people. It was all very regulated, he noted, with dinner times and mass movement from one place to the next. Perhaps it was merely the way things were at the moment, where they didn't want the newbies getting lost. He didn't know, but he didn't necissarilly like it either.

He wasn't really sure why he had been chosen for the earth house, as he had always thought himself more of an air person, though he needed the earth. He was a mix of the two, but perhaps it was better to have a grounding like this, rather than be cast out into the other element. Of course it could just have been a chance pick, rather than some fate that he picked the tile. So easy to think it was when the tiles themselves had spells woven into them for the doors, but it might just be made to look that way to make students feel more at home with their chosen dorm.

As he was shown into the common room, he took in the sumptuous surroundings, the quiet corners, the fire, the cushions, the walls. It was all very stately really, all rather rich, though well worn. As the teacher left, he would move towards the rooms, trying to find his own. Some others were doing the same. He didn't like the darkness of the halls, the way that the light pooled in areas and not in others. It made him nervous. Too many shadows even in broad daylight. He shivered a bit and moved quicker, soon finding his room and pressing his tile against the door. It changed into a key and he would open it, his senses flaring, taking in the room and what was in it.

It was a small room, there was no hiding that. It had two beds, a long desk with two chairs, wardrobe, chests of drawers and carpet on the floor. The walls were bland, and the lighting.. well the lighting was inadequate. He would close the door, moving instantly to his belongings, his hand stroking over the lute case before holding it to himself like a lost friend as his gaze took in the room. It was nice, nicer than the place he had been staying before, but he could feel the weight of the many people all around, the weight of the metal that went into the pipes and fittings in the place. He was going to have to live here. Here in this tiny room with potentially another person. No, he could not share. It was too dangerous. He looked around again, and after a very nearly tearful moment, he would start moving, tugging his bed away from the walls, doing the same to the other one before starting to lay down different sets of wards around the room. He had brought some stones to help him do it, because they had to remain here for a long time. He would lift the carpet at the corners, using chalk to mark down symbols around the edges of the room before replacing it, adding layer upon layer of wards, detection wards, sound wards, wards to make people avoid the room, make people absent-mindedly remember things they had to do elsewhere if they did get in. He laid three crystals under each bed, already charged with their spells, he even put wards on the wardrobe and dressers. More crystals were put in various places to light the room when the light from the window was not bright enough to chase the shadows away. It took him perhaps a couple of hours until the room felt vaguely safe. He would finish by putting an aversion/distraction charm on the door, making people overlook it, and if they had to check rooms, get distracted and think they had already done so. He didn't want people disturbing his room, his safeguards.

He was tired now, all the magic working had taken his toll, and he was hungry, but there wasn't much he could do about that. Moving to the small basin in the room, he would use a cloth to turn the tap on before filling a mug he had brought with him, taking a long drink before he steeled himself. He couldn't just hide in here forever.

Grabbing his lute case, he would make his way along the corridor to the common room of the earth dorm and look around the crowd of people there. He stayed inconspicuous and would move softly around the room until he found a space that was not already taken by chattering people. Taking out his lute, he would let his fingers caress along the strings. After a moment of tuning, he would begin to play. It was soft music. The type of music that filters into your consciousness in stages, until you finally notice it if you are of a mind to. He played softly, not imposing his music on others, but he wasn't scared of gatherings, especially when he had his music with him. He played well, though it was not a rousing tune. He was not performing as much as just doing what gave him pleasure, and what made him feel better.

Eventually, as the sound of the playing became noticeable to a few students one or two came over, but one of them moved close, sitting next to the other, brown eyes, brown hair, pretty ordinary looking but he watched attentively, following the movements swaying slightly as he listened and eventually as the music trailed off, he offered a hand, "Edward." He said, though he had several spells layered over his skin as he shook hands with the other, "I'm in your wing. I saw you move in." He said as the rest of the students dispersed, "Though you room is unusually hard to find, when it should be right between one fifteen and one seventeen." He teased softly, "I don't remember your name, however." After that initial handshake, he was oddly particular about contact, and chose not to touch the other again.

A few people passed, speaking greetings at Edward and the Fey, though one passed, laughing, "Found your next bit of prey?" The other boy said, and the voice was not particularly pleasant.

Edward's upper lip curled, "I'd watch myself if I were you Baldin, or you're next on the menu." He made no mistake about his particular dislike of the other boy as he passed by and disappeared down the hall opposite, beating a hasty retreat. "Forgive me." He said, "That boy is particularly unpleasant, and he had the unfortunate instance of walking in on me once and he has not made life particularly easy since." He said, smiling thinly, "Suddenly I find the commons uncomfortable, if you would like, I would be most agreeable if you would come to my room perhaps?"

He would notice the few that came to him. He liked having an audiance, though the close proximity was unnerving to him. He was playing to calm himself, and the way one man in particular came to sit so close beside him made him a bit uncomfortable. His music would taper off and immediatly the other would thrust his hand at him. He looked slightly taken aback, but didn't take it. "Im sorry, its a custom in our family not to shake hands with others" which was true enough, none of his kind really did, it was too dangerous, unless they were of the power to use it against another. Touch was not his strong point. It was all he could do not to move away from the stranger. He made him uneasy.

"Im Ash" he said, though his general unease was only compounded as one of the other students made a comment before rushing off at the obvious threat, which really only increased his wariness of this man, Edward. "Walked in on you?" he asked, feignting innocence, not actually sure what he meant by it. Prey? One might assume he walked in with him making out with someone, but why would that necissarilly make them prey?

His thoughts were interupted as the other said about going to his room. He had already proven himself dangerously astute as to his room. Why would he be interested in his room to notice it anyhow? It worried him. "Ah, no thank you. I was just about to turn in." he said. He could feel the sun on its downward trend, leaving the sky darkening dangerously. "Thanks for the thought though. I am sure we can catch up another time." he said, already slipping his lute into its case and standing. Unless otherwise stopped, he would head back to his room, using the different students still up to blend in and get lost before going into his room and locking the door, and ensuring all his wards were in place.

He sat down on his bed, all the little crustals were already glowing, chasing away all the shadows in the room. He ensured there was light everywhere, on top of the cupbards, under the bed, between the beds and the wall, and the places he didn't light up such as the insides of the cupboards, he would ward them. He could feel the sun going down, and as it went down, his fear only got worse. This was his place to stay now, and it was alien to him. He had even felt in some ways safer when Ahren was around, despite the man's power had been overwhelming and unrelenting. He had known he would look out for him, and keep the dangers away. Now he was on his own, stuck in this place and despite all his protections, he didn't feel that safe, especially not with the darkness swamping the building outside. He shivered, laying down on his bed, trying to relax, but it was impossible.

Edward had the grace to look embarrassed, "Yeah, um... yeah." He looked sideways, "I'm an incubus." He stood, looking away as the other stood, "I understand, yeah." Edward looked away, watching as the other left and hurried back to his room, sighing, before he growled and went to the other Wing disappearing into one of the room, and low murmurs rose from the room before Edward stepped out and he went into the commons, flopping down in front of the fire, immediately striking up conversation with several of the other guys that sat around until he too turned in for the night.
