| Chrysth frowned when the other didn't play along, "Kevin?" He asked, turning to him, his wings beating the air as he lifted up from the water and onto the dock where the other had stepped back. "What's wrong?" He asked, a small play of worry at the corners of his eyes. His mouth turned down, the other still hadn't figured it out. How much had he seen and he still didn't understand. He sighed, "Do you just want to head to our room?" He asked, bumping his hips against the other, "Come on, lets go get settled in." He took the other's hand, tugging slightly as he grabbed up his clothes and he moved towards their wing, pushing through and slipping into the hall of dorms, tapping doors as he went passed, not for any particular reason it seemed, but he got to their room and he pushed it open.
The room was fair sized, enough two people could live comfortably, one bed on either side of the room, done in shades of blue (of course) and two small (very small) closets with a dark blue curtain, light blue carpeting (all the better to see stains with, my dear), two little bedside dressers with a lamp and two drawers and two roof-to-ceiling desks with bookshelves above the desk itself on the door-side wall. On the opposing wall was a window that looked out to the grounds, or to the pool, or to an underwater scene, depending on which way the dial was turned. He moved to the window, twisting the dial and playing with it a bit before he moved to the comfortable looking bed and promptly flopped on the one that had his stuff on it on the right side of the room, "You okay with the arrangements?" He asked, one wing draping over the edge of the bed the other draping over his chest and stomach. "Look, I get that this can be overwhelming..."
There was a knock at the door and Professor DiMarcoh came in, "Kevin, please come with me." He said, gesturing to the other to follow him and he led the other into his office. There were a variety of decorations around, a massive wall aquarium was on the far side and three gigantic fish swam in the water, several fins on their bodies and sharp little teeth in their mouths as they opened and closed them. The walls had shelves and on the shelves were various aquatic things, dried urchin husks, sand dollars, starfish, fossilized fish bones, a couple other aquariums, one with several cool-eyed turtles with red stripes down their heads, and one with a strange manner of snake, three heads that hissed at one another and whispered, seeming to speak in their own quiet language.
"I understand you've had some troubles acclimating to the school because you weren't informed of the manner of institution this is." He said, he sat up on his desk and crossed his legs, the blue robes falling over his legs. "Let me ask you a few things, if I suspect correctly, you tend to know things a little bit in advance, something as simple as knowing who's going to call a few minutes before the phone rings, or knowing what's going to happen to someone if you touch them, or being able to tell what someone's going to say before they say it. All are evidence of a form of magic." He said, "I know you may not believe me, or that this is a kind of hoax, I assure you it's not." He stood, going to the various tanks and sprinkling food into them. The big fish in the back went to the surface, chasing down the little sprinkles of goodies that rained down for them. He went to the snake cage next and opened the mesh, the three heads looking up, "No fighting you three." He murmured, dropping in a large rat and letting the snake have at it, "You've had these experiences, one or two at least, no?" He asked the other, dropping a curtain over the three headed snake and returning to the desk.

He would look back to Chrysth, pausing. "Nothing.. I just don't like swimming." he said. It was an abnormality in the water dorm, that was for sure, but it was true. He didn't like swimming when there were other people there, which was always. He didn't look good in swimming shorts with all that flesh showing. It was embarrasing and completely took the fun out of the activity. "You go on, I can find the room" but he was soon to find that his roommate was in no way wanting to leave him alone to find it, and soon he would have a damp hip from where the other bumped him.. again disconcerting. Men just wernt usually that given to such close contact. Still, he would wait for the other to gather his clothes before they headed off out of the common room and to the rooms themselves.
The room was in shades of blues and rather easy to get dirty as far as he could see. The desk and bookcases were nice, and the beds seemed ok. He sat down on the one that had his stuff beside it. He would glance over to the other as he spoke, noting the wings seemed to be back to the normal size again.. or as normal as things could get he supposed. "Yeah seems nice." he said, glancing to the door as the knock came and the teacher stepped in. He blinked a little, looking back to Chrysth before following the teacher out of the room. Had they guessed he knew then? Was this to tell him of the hoax, the situation? Or was it to just tell him that it was time for him to go home now?
Moving to the teacher's office within the water dorm, he would look around the wealth of surroundings. Damn, this place was just as expensive looking as the rest of the place. All the different sort of fish around in the tanks, and some little snakes. Well.. a mutant snake, which the teacher soon covered, perhaps ensuring he wouldn't look too hard to find the wires or something. He doubted that a three headed snake existed. A dual headed one perhaps, very rarely, like cojoined twins, but three? Hardly that likely was it? He didn't pay too much attention to the rest of the fish, to notice them different or not. He was aware that his knowlege of aquatics was not that strong other than differentiating between gold fish with bulgey eyes, and those without bulgey eyes.
As the teacher began speaking, a small frown touched his eyebrows though he wiped it away quickly and showed to be attentive. So.. it seemed like the teacher was going along with this then? He supposed it would have to include adults of course. More adult than the students here at any rate. "Actually, I only enrolled an hour or so ago, two at most. What gave you the impression that I was having a difficult time adjusting. I would have thought that anyone would be a little awed by the university when first coming here. Its beautiful." How could the other have known he was uncomfortable unless they assumed he was, by the sheer fact that he was one of the ones in this big experiment, this big trick, or they had cctv all over, like some massive big brother house, but even then, he wasn't really sure he had shown anything. I mean even his roommate he hadn't told, only commenting on not wanting to swim. The whole thing stank.
As he was further questioned, perhaps trying to distract from the initial comment, he would listen. Ah of course.. it was magic. Yeah right. "Once or twice with the phone yes, but really, most people have, its statistically likely that it happens since we think about those close to us for a vast amount of the day, so the fact that someone phones up and we had been thinking about them isn't really that fantastical, nor is it magic by any streach of the imagination." he said "In my opinion."

He shook his head, "That's..." He sighed, "I assumed because I was told that you came from a primarily human family, no evidence of magical talent, and you grew up in the city down the way." He said, "The invitation letter does not specifically instruct as to what manner of university this is, in case someone were to get a hold of it." He said simply. He listened to the other patiently, "I'm sure you'll come to acknowledge, in time perhaps, that you have enough magical talent to be offered a place here, and also, in time, you will come to understand that we do not play games here, Mr. Bishop, I extend my hand to you now, if you ever need to talk, or seek advice, perhaps in your future or in what you wish to do with whatever degree you pursue, feel free to come to my door, it is always open to those in need." He said quietly, perhaps it was better to let the other learn about his abilities on his own, "For now, I offer you a quieter welcome to the school and I hope you adjust quickly. It can be a bit overwhelming for those raised by humans." He slid to his feet.
"Do you like animals?" He asked, changing the subject, "Perhaps something to take care of in your stay here?" He inquired, "It seems I have a surplus of turtles this year and I've been trying to find students to take care of a few, perhaps you would care for one of these? They're small, don't take a lot to feed, and I will give you an aquarium, if you like?" He moved to the back of his room and pulled out a small five gallon aquarium with rocks and a bit of land, and a small turtle, paddling around beneath the clear water. The turtle came up on the rocks and in the middle of its forehead and patterned over the pale silver shell were varying purple crystals seeming to grow atop the animal's shell. The one on its forehead was plain and diamond shaped, but it's eyes were the same color as the crystal on its shell. "They're a bit hard to come by, but if you like, I'll let you take care of him for the semester." He offered.

He listened to the professor as he talked his way around the slip, but really, merely because he might not have known, didn't really dictate how well he was settling in. Oh, it was plausible, of course it was. This man was not stupid by any stretch of the imagination, and neither would his explanations be. But .. yeah, playing games. Why would the teacher bring up such a comment, when he had done nothing to indicate he thought it might be. Unless it was a big game, unless it was some big experiment or television thing, unless there were many students like this, lured in and woven into the lies of the place.
Still, it seemed the interview was at least short, and he would politely thank the lecturer for his offer of guidance, that at least was something he had expected any school or college to provide, since it was the norm.
The turtle however was not. He looked at the little thing in the glass case. Ok, so what did he know about turtles.. nothing really. They moved slowly, did very little. He had never seen the point in them, but .. if this were some sort of game, some sort of thing he didn't understand, then a turtle was a very good way to give something that seems innocent, give something that doesn't have many moving parts, and have someone look after it, building on the belief through that, that a turtle with gems stuck on its back was normal, that it was a little magical creature. Yeah.. whatever.
"I don't think it would be a very good idea Professor DiMarcoh" he said as the other pretty much thrust it at him. "I don't really like turtles much, and I have never been good at keeping pets, or plants. Since turtles seem a bit of both, it would be a recipe for disaster. I don't want to inadvertently kill one of your rare pets."
Why was he in water dorm? Did they choose at random? He didn't like swimming really, and didn't much see the point in fish or turtles and the other things. Sure, the dorm was amazing, but from outward appearances he seemed not really to have the same sort of leanings towards such a dorm, but then, who knew, perhaps once you scratched the surface, other things would show. Or not.
He waited to see whether the teacher wanted anything else of him. He had been pleasant, and had given nothing away really of his inner turmoil. He didn't think so anyhow. How long could he stand being in such a place, wonderful as it was, while knowing now there had to be cameras everywhere. He had never wanted to be on Big Brother, in fact he had mocked those that did go on it. Now he was getting his comeuppance.

He nodded, "Very well, I was just wondering." He set the turtle down and wiped off his desk, "I just wanted to make sure you were doing all right, I trust you can find your way back to the dorm?" He asked, straightening his robes as he moved to the other, bowing slightly as Kevin took his leave, or if the other couldn't, he led him back to the dorm. "I hope you find the experience here interesting." He said and nodded to Chrysth as he left.
<<Chrysth Donis>>
"What was that about?" He asked Kevin as he stood from his bed he'd been laying on and pulled the other inside, his wings curving over the other for a moment, before they withdrew and he glanced down at his companion and roommate. "He have anything interesting to say?" He tilted his head, already he'd been moving in and his closet was filled with clothing on hangars and folded on shelves and his top drawer was open on the bedside table and there were a few odd looking tools, some manner of pliers and clippers inside, as well as a few personal items as he left the door open.
He sat on his bed, patting it to invite the other to sit with him. "What'd he say?" His wings slid down to rest on the bed as he folded up on the bed and leaned back against the headboard, he was curious, and he might as well make to get along with his roommate while they were together, the worst thing would be to hate his roommate, honestly, he had to live with the guy.

He would nod a little to the Professor. Despite his misgivings about the school and its real function, he liked the professor. "If I have any real issues, I guess Ill come speak to you then?" he said, standing and moving to the door "Yeah, I think I can find my way back. Thanks." He offered the man a smile, more like his more genuine one. Ok, so he didn't really believe the situation he was in was that real, but the guy was nice. You couldn't fake everything after all, some bits, some personality had to be true.
Moving out of the professors room, he would move along the long line of doors until he found his own again. Shifting inside, and closing the door behind him, he was soon accosted by his roommate, who tugged him inside, that soft wealth of feathers surrounding his shoulder, guiding him in. He blinked, slightly overwhelmed but would be allowed some space a moment later. He glanced to the spot on the bed where the other had patted for him to sit, and he hesitated a moment before taking a chair from the desk and pulling that around instead. "He was just wanting to know how I was settling in, and if I had any problems" he said, watching the other. Of course he would have been put with someone who would tell all later, or perhaps just get the information out of him for whatever cameras there were around. "He offered me a turtle to look after, but im crap with pets, and I don't really like turtles, so I turned it down. Don't really think he would want a dead turtle at the end of term." he said with a bit of a grin.
He sobered up a bit though. He needed some foundation of truth, he needed to find the truth in all these lies, something solid he could rely on. Something he could grip and remember reality, because already these lies were overwhelming. He looked at his flatmate, with his horns and his wings. He knew little about the intricacies of film special effects, but there would always be telltale signs, especially up close. You couldn't question bone structure, or the way it moved beneath the skin. Even if the truth was finding the lie, it would be a start.
"Iv never met anyone with wings like yours before.. could I.. see how they work up close? I don't understand how they would be able to lift your entire body off the ground, even if they extend. You must have some fair muscles on your back to even hold them up." Ok, so that was about the best he could do, but it would give him an excuse to look closely at the other's back, to see where the fake joined with the real. The horns would be too difficult to, being so embedded with the hair, it would be difficult to see, but the wings would be right there in clear view against the skin. He would be able to see that, even if the other had fake skin covering fake muscles, there would be telltale signs.

He nodded, "Sure you can look." He said, standing quickly and turning so the other could look at his wings more easily. As the other would feel over them, touching his back and feeling the thickly corded muscle, the layers and layers of feathers, like that of a bird's, but obviously much bigger.
After a little while of the other touching, there was a knock and the door pushed open after a called, "Come in." From Chrysth.
~DiMarcoh~
He peered into the room, "Time for lights out, I suggest you change and head to bed, Orientation tomorrow and schedules are available, so get some rest." He said before he shut the door and continued making his rounds to make sure everyone was in bed and was asleep.

| (coming from Lux's room)<<Darcy>> Darcy hid under the bed all night, but when the sylphs rose at dawn, he went to play. From them he learned a little bit about some of the new and returning students, and, as the hour drew later, he decided to investigate and play a little on his own. Giggling to himself, he knocked on the door of #126, hiding in the shadows. If no response, then he'd knock again a little louder, staying hidden from any students who may be wandering by. | |

A sleep that had been trouble getting into in the beginning was rudely butchered by the repeated knocking on the door. He groaned and it would take a moment to gather himself, and then remembering he was not in fact at home any more.
Scrambling up (because his room-mate was showing no signs of stirring), he pulled on his dressing gown and moved to the door, sleepily opening it and peering out. He blinked, looking down the corridors. Nothing. He frowned, his usually cheerful face, indeed the same cheerful face that had so upset Darcy before, was set in a sleepy frown. He sighed. Was this school just filled with pranksters? or was it a passing teacher that had knocked on the door as a wakeup call? He didnt know.
He glanced at his watch.. and it was way too early to be up. He turned back in and closed the door again before flopping back on bed. No way he was getting up this early without a damn good reason.

Grinning with the success of his ploy, Darcy slipped through the door as the cherub-faced boy opened it with a yawn. He wound loosely around Kevin's ankles, preceding the boy back across the room to stare in wonder at the half-tidy and half-chaotic mess of the bedroom. The wings of the other boy covered him like a blanket and Darcy dared a soft, not-there touch before poking his nose into anything that didn't require opening or moving. Then he crouched on the corner of Kevin's bed and stared at him as he slept.
He was a little puzzled, wanting to be close but knowing that the boy was dangerous to him, if not precisely why. Kevin didn't seem dangerous; he looked quite the opposite in fact, but he felt dangerous.
Darcy had come to the room to play, but was instead caught and just lingered as the shadows slowly inched up the walls as the sun crept upwards in the sky.

He would have gone back to bed, unknowing of his room guest. He slept surprisingly well until the sunlight streaking through the curtainless window became too much to bear. He would groan, trying to block it out and sleep for a while longer, but the sunlight was insistent.
Groggy, he would get up, moving about the room in that post-sleep haze, rummaging through his bag, bits and pieces getting tossed onto the bed, others put on the nearest desk with seemingly very little order to it before he trumped through to the little toilet and shower room adjoining and would take a shower.
Feeling cleaner, but not necessarily more awake, he would move back through and dress a bit, glaring a little at his roommate who seemed to sleep like the dead, though having those wings to cover you from the light had one large advantage he didn't have even if they were fake. Now dressed, he would flop back down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling.
He didn't know what to do about the university. It was grand and amazing really, so many new and interesting things, but the whole place was steeped so full of lies, and ones he didn't know how to get to the bottom of. How did one prove that this was all just a sham? A movie or something? How could you do that when the whole place was set up to draw students like him into the story? Should he even be trying? The setup bothered him because he didn't like being taken for a fool. Magic didn't exist for goodness sake!
Turning on his side, he looked over to his roommate and his vast swathe of feathers. Right. Not really a better way to look. He turned onto his back again, restless, tired but unable to sleep. Maybe he should go out this weekend and buy some curtains.. or maybe he had something he could just shove up over the blasted window in the meantime. Getting up this early was not natural!

At first Darcy stayed under the bed and in dark places, but his natural mischievous inclinations soon had him creeping up the walls and along the ceiling. While he couldn't allow himself to be seen, he didn't like the worried, pensive look he saw the innocent boy wearing. It was too solemn and skeptic for his open face, too much like something Lux would wear, and Darcy had a strong desire to turn Kevin back into the wide-eyed, enthusiastic boy of the night before. He didn't want to lose the first person to share that enthusiasm.
So, with concentration, he turned his shadowy form into moving pictures. He'd done such before, staying to the edge of the individual's eye-range, just a flicker here and there to make them nervous, but his goal was less sinister now, playful.
The winged one was forgotten as Darcy flitted around the room. He wanted to see Kevin smile, and laugh.

He lay there on his bed, staring at the ceiling when something caught his attention from the corner of his eye. He blinked, looking over, but there was nothing there. He frowned, moving to sit up on his bed, and there it was again, except over the other side of the room. He looked over quickly but there was nothing there. What was that? Some trick of the light?
Standing, he would move over to the large window and look out, trying to catch whatever it was that was making reflections in the room, but even as he did so there was something out the corner of his eye and he spun around, his heart beating too fast. How could that have been from the window? It was in the darkest corner of the room?!
He took a deep breath, then another. Ghosts did not exist. Ghosts did not exist. He looked over to his sleeping flatmate and was tempted to try and wake him, but what would he say? Hey, despite the fact I don't think you are for real, or this place is really anything like what it seems, I think im seeing ghosts, despite the fact that I don't believe in those either. No, no that wouldn't do. There had to be some sort of trick. They probably had the rooms all wired up with strange things like that to keep him and any others that didn't belong here on edge, like the tortoise he had been offered, little things to keep them on the edge of believing until they really did.
This was the really real world. Ghosts did not exist. He took a couple of breaths and went back to lay down. His heart was still beating a bit too fast, but with his rational back in place about what had caused it, even in that vague sense, he was able to cope better. However nervous as he was, it didn't bring smiles to his face, if anything, the young slightly podgy male looked even more tense and out of sorts.
Perhaps Darcy would be able to sense that this particular male had very little.. very very little magical talent. Even less than many of the school's servants. It was unknown whether Darcy had enough life experience or knowledge to grasp that some with magic might not have been brought up around it, but perhaps he did. Perhaps he could guess. But either way, the floating colours and pictures did not have a cheerful response from the young man, and the more that might appear, these glimpses of things, would only make him more tence and eventually he would turn over to the wall, closing his eyes tight against their influence. If it stopped, he would slowly return to a less-uptight state and end up rummaging through his bags to find bits and pieces and sort them out, putting some little nick-nacks onto his desk, like a little plastic dragon, some books and such, and those would make him smile a bit when they were situated, and making him feel a little more at home.

His play shadows were not having the desired effect. Darcy stopped uncertainly, floating morosely in a corner, but he could not remain idle for long, distracted by the flowing feathers on the room's other occupant. Sliding beneath and behind the furniture, he touched the underside of the wings where they trailed over the edge of the bed.
Drawing back if the boy wiggled, he played with the feathers, having never gotten near enough to a bird to ever touch something so soft before; he was fascinated.

| Chrysth was well and truly passed out, on his stomach, curled up tightly, his wings used as blankets beneath the blankets, one wing drooping out the side of the bed. As he slept he felt the faint tickle on his feathers and he shifted, a quiet groan coming from him, but he didn't move much more than that. If the other's touching persisted, he eventually woke, his wings pulling into the bed. He looked around, "Morning." He said to the other, yawning widely as he stretched, looking around, he was confused. What woke him up? He folded his wings against his back and looked around as he slid out of bed, his blue boxer shorts catching the bit of light before he slid out of them, reaching for his trunk at the foot of his bed.
He wasn't wearing anything beneath the boxer shorts (they were underwear after all) and he bent over the end of the bed, pulling up the trunk and fishing around for a pair of pants that he pulled out and yanked them up on his bed, wriggling his hips into the skintight pants. "How'd you sleep your first night here?" He asked the other across the room.

He had spent the time before Chrysth woke up unpacking stuff for his desk. Truth be told it was all the stuff from his desk, and he had spent the last hour and a half unpacking and organising it until it was in all the same spots from his desk at home. It made him feel more in control and less edgy with things that were so familiar all around him. Compared to the other man's desk, his was a clutter-fest, though everything had its place, usually around the edges of the desk. There were pencil pots, and file holders, and pencils with little figures on the end, like a dragon coiled around it. There were some books and notepads and all other manner of things including a whole load of coloured paper clips.
Looking around his desk, he would feel satisfied overall with how it turned out, not to mention the fact he knew the layout so well (because he hadn't changed it in so long) that he would be able to tell if anyone tampered with it.
As the other woke at last, he would look over at him. "I slept ok I guess. Strange being in a new room.. and the sunlight woke me up so early. I couldn't sleep after that." He looked away as the other got changed, not used to being around someone as they did so, especially not in jeans like those. "So do we get our timetables today?" he asked, his fingers playing with some putty at the side of the desk.

The feathers were amazing! Darcy had never felt anything so soft before. He ran his fingers along the underside of the wing he could reach, and found that the skin beneath was just as soft. He never wanted to stop. Was this why Toma carried around that little bird of his? Darcy had seen boys sleep with small, plush toys or other things. He hadn't understood then, but Darcy decided right then that he wouldn't mind going to sleep -- well, he didn't actually sleep, it wasn't necessary, but curling up on a bed of feathers sounded really, really nice.
He sighed a little as the winged boy stirred and rose, but Darcy stared unabashed. No one had ever thought to teach him modesty, and he'd learned his manners from Lux. He marveled at how the wings emerged over the shoulders, skin first, and then feathers. He longed to trace over the muscles, feel the bones under the skin and see how they worked.
But there was too much light now and he stayed hidden beneath the bed, peering around the furniture. Although forbidden to reveal himself, Darcy longed for social contact, and he drank in the two boys' camaraderie, hungry for whatever it was that made some people friends with one another.

| Chrysth stretched a bit, rubbing his stomach, his wings rustling and moving a bit. He kept getting funny tickles in them. "That sucks. I hate being woken early." He said quietly, "Hey cool!' He looked at the other's desk, "Where'd you get all these?" He asked, putting his hands behind his back, he didn't want to touch anything if he wasn't allowed.
He retreated, sitting on the bed beneath the canopy, his face partially hidden by shadows, "W..." Bells cut him off and professor DiMarcoh's voice came over some hidden PA.
"Everyone please come to the commons, Orientation is due to start soon so please make haste and get dressed. Your timetables will be chosen at breakfast so don't forget to pick up a class listing on your way." And the PA went off.
"I guess that's our cue." He said, reaching for the trunk again and pulling out a shirt. He tied it behind his neck and around his waist, leaving most of his back exposed so his wings were free. He waited for the other, "Come on." He said, quietly urging the other to hurry.

He glanced to his desk "Oh, well its stuff from my desk at home. Its familiar, and I use most of it.. well except the toys, but they remind me of home. I guess it'll help me concentrate on work n stuff, cause its familiar." He clearly was not a minimalist sort of guy, but then it was a very human thing to have all sorts of stuff around, the gathering of things that made him feel safer in the big bad world, and Chrysth knew, or would at least guess that the youth had not been having such a great time last night.
At the bell and announcement, he would grab a shirt and pull it on over a t-shirt (all the better to hide excess fat with), leaving it unbuttoned. "You think ill need to bring anything? A pen and pad or something?" He had no idea, but would grab a small pad and a pen and shove them in his back pocket before hurrying out with the other, remembering to take his little keycard thing with him.

| He looked at them, "That stuff is so neat. Where'd you get them?" He looked at all the little figures, they were so cute! They didn't have anything like this back where he was from. Though he backed off after a bit, "Hm," He flashed a grin at the other, "You're cute." He said, his wings pulled tight at his back, "I don't know, maybe. You think we should take stuff?" He fished around in his bag, pulling out a paper pad and a quill that he stuck behind his ear, "Come on, lets head down to the commons." He said and disappeared to the Dining Hall , dragging Kevin with him. | |
