| --> IC Thread here <--World Info In the land of Synn, there is one hierarchy: dragon and not-dragon. There are two gods of the lands. They are brothers in the mythology of creation. Twins, with a passionate hatred for one another. They take the form of dragons, for those are the First People, the Only People for one of the brothers, and just one of many sentient races to the other. Tezcacoatl is the Lord of (good) Dragons, Sovereign of the Sky Realm, Master of the Wind, and ruler of all winged creatures. Tezcacoatl stands ever on the side of all humankind, a distant benefactor, who, it is said, sent his servants to first bring fire to mankind, guiding them along the path of knowledge. His mortal enemy is Xiuhcoatl, the Master of Destruction, Lord of War. Xiuhcoatl believes that the world was made for dragonkind, and all else is inferior and should not be allowed to live. The gods have been at war for centuries, their followers likewise choosing sides, to destroy, or to protect. Our story begins at the end. Rules:1. I am God, mwahaha! No, seriously, the two dragon-gods are mine, don't use them without my permission. 2. One char per person 3. Good grammar and spelling is a must. 4. Meta-Gaming will get you booted. PM me if you are unfamiliar with this term 5. No double-posting, unless you PM me first 6. This list may be updated by me at any time
Character Info This is a high-fantasy world; there are Dragons, Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Brownies, Nelwyns, Orcs, Goblins, and Wizards. All characters will be on the side of the Lord of Dragons.
Races of Synn Dragons:Dragons age very, very slowly, and reproduce likewise. They tend to mate and live according to their elements. For example, white dragons have elemental powers of ice/snow and live to the far north and south. They mate and live with other white dragons. Blue dragons = water, Red = fire, Green = poison, you get the idea. The older a dragon is, the bigger a dragon is. Dragons are immortal. Dragons are the first race, the oldest, and with the smallest population. They are revered as kins to the Gods, and all but humans will do anything a dragon asks, without question. Dragons can shape-shift into a human form, a gift from the Lord of Dragons. Only 'good' dragons can shift. Good Dragons are White (ice), Blue (water), Green (poison), Crystal (wind), Evil Dragons are Black (fear), Red (fire), Yellow (lightning), Brown (earth) Humans:These are standard medieval-fantasy humans. Average life-span is 50 years. They have no magic and are the youngest, largest, and fastest-growing population. They tend to believe what they personally know, and the rest is myth. Pretty standard, really. Just think King Arthur times or Lord of the Rings and you'll be fine. They fight on either side equally, and have been known to slaughter each other in 'Holy Wars.' Elves:These are the second-oldest race (dragons were first). They are very long-lived, though not immortal, and their population is decreasing faster than they can replace them. Elves have no magic, and generally speaking tall, athletic, and graceful. Tolkein elves, in other words. The elven cities (they are ruled in city-states and the kings/queens meet in counsel) are scattered throughout the world, one in the cliffs, one in the forests, one on the sea (a floating island), one in the mountains, one on the plains, and one in the frozen tundra of the North. They have always sided with the Lord of Dragons, though there may be a few over the centuries to rebel and fight for the Lord of War. Half-Elves:Humans and Elves are the only races which can inter-breed. This is not looked upon favorably, generally speaking. The half-elves typically grow up feared or despised for their other half. If raised in the Elven cities, for being half-human, and if raised amongst humans, for being half-elf. They live longer than humans, but less than elves, a span of a couple hundred years. They're generally slimmer and have more agility than humans, but are stronger and shorter than most elves. They have no magic, and often live outcast lives, becoming mercenaries or living in small communities with other half-elves. Like humans, they fight on either side equally. Brownies:Only about a foot tall (.3 meters), brownies are hidden, magical creatures that have pretty much stayed neutral throughout all the conflicts. They are a jovial folk, with life-spans about twice that of humans, whom they love to prank. They live primarily in the forests, and are also known as fox-riders. Their magic is tied to the earth, making potions out of plants, for example, and they have a close kinship to the Nelwyns. Nelwyns:For the most part, Nelwyns are farmers, but their warriors fight for the Lord of Dragons. Using mostly spears, Nelwyns are as brave as they are short. Standing at about 3.5 feet (1 meter) tall, they are also sometimes called Halflings (not to be confused with Half-Elves). They drink and fight equally, and live slightly longer than humans. Orcs:Unlike Tolkien Orcs, these Orcs are intelligent, thoughtful people. They reside mostly upon the plains, and have some elemental affinity with wind-magic. This allows them to move really fast, and their dancers are unbelievable; however, they have historically chosen to fight on the side of the Lord of War. They have long memories and hate humans for the ancient wrong of encroaching upon their territory. They fight on their own two feet, not on horse-back like the plains-dwelling humans and elves. (They don't care for elves, either.) When the armies of the God of War march, they march to the beat of the Orcish War-Drums, rumbling like thunder. Goblins:These are cousins of the Orcs and live primarily underground. They ride wargs and think Brownies are a delicacy. Like Orcs, they have chosen to side with the Lord of War. Their arch enemies are the spear-warriors of the Nelwyn, and perhaps once, long, long ago, they were one people. The Goblins worship dragons and hate any race not Goblin. No one knows how long they live, because they fight each other constantly, and few people want to get close enough to tell males and females apart. Wizards:A wizard can be born of any race, and are born with a large, usually unsightly birthmark or other defect. They are sickly as children, and many die before their gifts materialize at puberty. A wizard has two of the following gifts: - Mind-Speech - Beast-Speech (same as mind-speech, only with animals) - Healing (which has several specialties) - Far-Sight (clairvoyance) - Fetching (telekinesis) - Empathy - Fire-Starting - Fore-Sight (seeing the future) and all wizards have the ability to sense the energy around living things and to use that energy to work spells. When the gifts emerge, their feet also become 'itchy,' a term used by Wizards to describe the desire/need to wander, to find others like themselves. They are very few and the Wizards all feel compelled to help keep the balance of nature, kind of the opposite of the gods, to repair damage to the people and world by the incessant fighting. They combat wild fires and other natural disasters, fight when necessary to stop genocide or other destructive behaviors, and above all, they stay neutral. Unlike Brownies, however, the Gods, their dragons, and their followers are not content to leave Wizards alone. If they won't choose a side, then they'll be destroyed.
Characters List Name: Hotaru Dragonslayer Age: 116 Race: Half-Elf Appearance: Hotaru is 6 ft tall and approximately 200 lbs. He's well-muscled, especially in the upper body, but on the thin side. He looks to be approximately 35 years of age and has a severe skin condition which he keeps hidden under his clothing and armor. His black hair is kept cropped close to his head to ease the wear of his helmet. Hotaru carries a spear with a crystal blade alongside the standard broadsword. His shield and armor are made with scales from the dragons he has killed, giving him some resistance to those elements. History: As a young man, Hotaru fell in with a cult of Xiuhcoatl and he was thoroughly indoctrinated into the god's following. He doesn't remember much of his youth, or his parents, nor does he care. His brainwashing has left him little room to care about anything but the voice of God in his head. His appointed path is to seek out and destroy the few good dragons remaining on Synn, in order to make free the path for the true dragons' return and eventual destruction of the world. Hotaru has a unique ability to sense dragons and his spear is an ancient, magical, dragons-bane weapon. In the mindset of the cult, Hotaru fully accepts that the return of the dragons will also bring about his own death. His only wish is to be rewarded in the afterlife.

| So, you know how I said everyone's character has to be on the side of the "Good Guys?" Well, the forum will kick off with how Hotaru becomes indebted to the Lord of Dragons and switches sides.
Our mission will be to stop the crazy ritual/ceremony that the cult of the Lord of War are enacting in order to break the spell imprisoning the majority of the Evil Dragons.
Hotaru will be in the icy lands of the South, hunting (and killing) one of the ancient white dragons. There's a blizzard, and the Lord of Dragons sends one/two of his servants to save Hotaru. He's known only as the Dragonslayer and is feared and/or hated by all dragons, good or evil, because of what he is and the weapon he carries.
The good guys know about the ritual, and approx when it will be (on the anniversary of the spell's casting), but not all the details. Hotaru will know some, and we'll have to discover the rest. The clock's ticking!
Now, who wants to save the world?

| Name: Kagarithorn Oceanwalker (Thorn for short, or Lord Oceanwalker to those who serve him)
Age: Really, f***ing old.
Race: Dragon
Appearance: ~Noble Shape~ - He has a massive form, as it goes from being older. He's a deep blue/purple color, with far-seeing dark violet eyes, his body is long and elegant a little thicker around his chest before he narrows out again at his waist and hips. His tail is about as long as his body from backside to the end of his nose. He has long horns that grow from slightly above his eyes and curve back along his head before twisting up in a spiral at the ends. One horn decorates the end of his nose, cream colored, different from the jagged purple and blue of the horns on his head. He has large ears (the better to hear you with, my dear) that have soft, fine fur growing from them, delicate as down, and, similarly, a silky line of fur runs down the length of his spine, blooming out into the furry end of his tail, though the fur hides the hidden barb at the end of it. Teeth slightly over hang his bottom lip and two on either side curve over his upper lip. He has black claws with four toes on each foot (as well as a dewclaw) and fully functioning hands with opposable thumbs, though his 'arms' are slightly shorter than his legs giving him an ungainly looking walk when he deems the ground worthy of his footsteps. Most of the time he uses the powerful, massive wings that sweep from end to end, about fifty feet, the web extending down to the start of his tail.
~Humble Shape~- He is tall and lean, corded with muscle and a faint blue sheen to his skin. His eyes are the same, far reaching purple, the kind that seem to peer into the very soul. His hair cascades in thick, multi-colored violet waves, falling somewhere around his waist. Usually it's tied up in elaborate styles involving lots of braids and a messy-but-elegant style. His forehead bears two horns, echoing his Noble Shape as well as sharp canine teeth and long violet claws adorn his fingers.
History: He was not a normal drakling, unusually aggressive for a blue dragon, having hatched first, he killed the rest of his clutch, destroying their eggs and snapping their necks with his egg teeth. He grew up at a hundred miles a second, wanting to know and experience everything, until he met humans. The humans, frightened by the dragons that had moved in nearby, they didn't know any better and at the young age of only a century, after watching these humans for so long, they destroyed everything he knew insofar. His mother, and his father were gone. He fled to keep from the same fate until he stumbled into an ancient old White dragon's lair. He learned much from the old dragon before he vanished into the snow and didn't return. Nearly seven centuries under his belt now, he left the snowy mountains that had become his home, and delved into the world with renewed vigor. He discovered goblins, small creatures that looked like goblins but weren't, he discovered elves, he discovered humans, he discovered life and green things and he discovered women (frightening) dragons. He fought for territory, and he mated once or twice, though he finds he much prefers the company of men to women. He quickly became a powerful figure in draconic society, establishing a territory quickly, wresting it from reds and browns and blacks, until he had an extensive territory, that expanded into elven territory where they took to worshipping him. He eventually became known as 'Lord Oceanwalker' to the elves he was worshipped by. He resides there now, having one of the largest territories to date, in a densely forested area, with drop offs and rivers that curl through it, giving many waterfalls and about a million dangerous creatures, not including the elves, that would aid in the protection of his territory.

| I have been reading this thread (and the ic thread). So far only Blackwulff has replied and posted a character. Since there are only 2 dragons allowed, I would know whether Autruna has chosen to play one or not as it will affect what character I can play. | |

| Subject: Profile: Arandur Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:01 pm | |
| Name: Arandur Age: 212 Race: Elven wizard Gifts: Healing, Fetching
Appearance: He is 6'3" in height, slender but not too much. There is lean muscle all over his form. Dressed quite plainly, he needs no real adornment for his face and body are both handsome and graceful, and he holds an air of effortlessness in his movements. His hair is long, falling in varying shades of gold and platinum down his back, streaked through with slender blue threads, some cotton, some slender metal fibres to give his hair a more sea-worthy appeal. His eyes are grey.
He is not whole however, for his misfortune at having been born with the potential for magic came with it the price for such a thing. Outwardly and fully clothed, nothing is immediately apparent, especially since he takes such care to promote such a visage. Disrobed however the full extent of the wizard's curse upon him is visible. On his left hand side, under his ribs the skin and muscle is wasted away, great gaping hole in what would otherwise have been an immaculate body. The muscles are sunken or rotted away in places, the bones of his ribcage at the bottom on that side are twisted, as is the side of his hipbone. It almost seems like some great beast had taken a chomp at him, tearing and sucking at the flesh, then have it heal over, though nothing of the sort happened, he was just born that way. It is not a painless affliction, a mockery of his healing gift.
He carries no weapons.
History: Arandur, a name meaning steward or care-taker, was born a sickly child, small and weak, partially because of the fact that wizards were naturally born like that, and because of the wasting disease that took ahold of him at a young age. It was strong, and it took much of the city healer's constant strength and vigilance to keep the affliction from spreading further and killing him. By the time he reached physical maturity at the age of 64, the progression of the affliction seemed to have stopped, which was just as well for his body was already left weakened, stopping him from pursuing any truly physical calling. However when that time came, his need to find other's of his kind took ahold and drove him from his town to search.
He left with a party consisting of himself and two others, for he was well liked despite his affliction for his temperament had always been kind. Many years he searched, but his kind were so few, and travelling tired him terribly. It was during this time on the roads of the land that he eventually lost both of his travelling companions; one to a beautiful maiden whom they had met while pausing on their journeys at another elven city, and the second in an attack by a large group of bandits. It was also the time he had lost his freedom.
It had been a particularly damp day and they were passing along the road when the bandits struck. It had been a hard winter, and food shortages were high, and so many more raids were taking place as people had grown desperate. They had been travelling along the coast at the time, just himself and his companion with their horses. His pain had been strong that day from the constant jostling of the horse, and that perhaps was his only excuse for not hearing them, or not hearing them on time. It was quick and bloody, and though he had some luck with throwing nearby rocks with his gift at his attackers, there were just too many. He was knocked from his horse even as his friend fought on and then it happened. In the growing shadows none of them spotted the swell of the water until the dragon surfaced with a bellow.
The carnage had the potential to be huge and despite the fact that the people had attacked them he did his best to stop it. His nature rebelled against such a slaughter, especially because he was a healer. Eventually he found himself being stared at by the humongous blue dragon as the bandits scattered. The result of this ended up him being forced into coming to the dragon's lair to heal some of his people. It had seemed harmless enough, since it was an elven city. His friend was sent home and he was taken to the underwater city of Lord Oceanwalker. He didn't know when he made the deal however that there was no way for him to escape the town once he was there.
Over 120 years had passed since he had made the deal, saving the lives of those bandits, and themselves perhaps, and he was still in the elven city serving it with his skills. Over the years, when it became apparent that he would not be able to leave, and that he was entirely at the disposal of the ancient dragon, he settled in further. He had no choice, and perhaps because of his good looks, the dragon was quite taken with him. It was at least safer here than out on the road, but despite this, he still wished to be free no matter how compelling the dragon could be.

| Aw, that sounds so sad, but Arandur looks like a magnificent character. So glad you wrote in your history how you came to be there, that works out perfectly! As a healer with no (or little) formal training, feel free to explore on your own what his abilities might be. No restrictions, other than the obvious regarding don't get too powerful. Er, I mean the magical healing portion, as I'm sure he received regular healing instruction. He's had plenty of time to figure stuff out, so I'll leave you to your own devices.
As far as the mage gift goes, being untrained is a bit of a hazard, but in this dangerous world, I can understand why Thorn kidnapped Arandur rather than let him continue his quest. It should be interesting to see if the elf realizes that he could have escaped at any time with his magic. Darnn that dragon; he can be so persuasive! lol
This'll be so fun! So you're my healer, huh? I can tell you that Hotaru's rash is not a curse or spell, but it cannot be cured, and you know that Thorn is not telling you everything he knows about the half-elf in your care. I threw in the woman as one of the dragon's servants. I think Wulff called her Emma. You can use her if you wish, I don't mind either way, and welcome to the group!

| Name: Aeolus the Dreamer Age: A wise old age Race: Crystal Dragon
Appearance: Natural Form – Aeolus is small in comparison to his fellow dragons, especially for one of his age. His size has one great advantage though, he is much better suited for flying than others may be. His scales have a shimmering quality and seem to reflect the most prominent color of his surroundings, while his underbelly shows a soft a pale blue color, matching the underside of his wings and his claws. His tail stretches half over his own height, the tip decorated with three beautifully lethal barbs. Similarly sharp spines line the middle of his back, starting with what could be considered a horn at the middle of his forehead and gradually decreasing in size as they travel towards his tail. His overall pale coloring is offset by the sapphire-like scale at the base of his horn and his matching sapphire eyes.
Human Appearance – When masquerading as a human, Aeolus stands five feet and ten inches, with silver hair that covers his butt when down as he usually wears. He touches it up by braiding silver ribbon and blue jewels into it at various points of his head. As in his natural form, his darkest features (his skin is quite pale) are the small sapphire scale on his forehead and his eyes. Most times he can pass off the scale as a decorative jewel. His nails are unusually long, but they suit his elegantly shaped hands and face. In regards to build, he is hardly bulky, rather slim for a dragon, but solidly built as a human.
History: Aeolus has always been small; in fact, he only survived as a young dragon through trickery and luck. He was lucky that his fellow hatchlings were more interested in fighting each other, giving him time to find a place to disappear to. Again, he was lucky that none thought to look for him, because he didn’t go far. He stayed near, taking what food he could until he could no longer hide. Fortunately, by that time he had been able to sneak out and had been practicing flying and so he could take off and explore the world from a young age.
He spent many years traveling and learning new things, never staying in one place for long, never establishing a permanent den for himself. During his travels, he learned about and studied the various races that lived off the land of Synn. He met and spoke to elves, newlyns and brownies. He even managed to speak to a few orcs and goblins. Through his studies of these creatures, he discovered his own insatiable curiosity. And so he set out to learn more of the world’s inhabitants. He learned to use their weapons, their celebrations, their stories and even their histories.
The first time he’d tried to speak to the humans. They didn’t even bother to ask him to take his smaller form, they attacked first. That lack of respect irritated him as it would anyone. The next time he tried to learn of the human culture, he took his human-like form before he approached any of their towns. They were such a strange race and yet there was something almost sweet about them, perhaps it was their naïveté to the world surrounding them, but despite their insistence on killing each other over land, he found them almost endearing. He did not care for the fact that they wished to hunt other races though. As most of the races they hunted didn’t bother them, that they tried so hard to wipe out anything different thoroughly confused him. Before he could get his answers, he had to move on, so as not to arouse suspicion since he did not age as humans did.
Around this time in his travels, he opted to build his hoard. He found a cave that he could call home, high up in a southern mountain range, safe from human raiders and dragon slayers. He built up his home and but kept the smaller places dotted across the map, he decorated those with lighter comforts of home. He was certain that the humans were unhappy that he took things of theirs, but he was always careful not take a human life unless they threatened his first, which nearly always happened when he appeared to them in his natural form.
Since, he has made a couple more stays with the humans, still searching for the answers that he can’t seem to find. What was the purpose of power and glory? What did it earn a creature of this world? None of the races of Synn seem to have solid answers to these questions All have their own goals and their own purposes. He has seen all manner of strange coincidences and some perhaps acts of fate herself. He has heard the Lord of the Skies and insists on worshipping him as such, as he acknowledges the existence of the other dragon god, called the Lord of War.
At this time, on another study of humans. He knows little of the plans of the Lord of War, just the basic goal, he has heard of the various murders of dragons by a slayer, supposedly promised to the Lord of War himself. He has little understanding beyond that, though he has been keeping an ear out as humans have a strange habit of spreading truth with fantasy and legend.

| One note about half-dragons: they are mostly their other half, with a few draconic traits thrown in. For example, no wings or scales, tails, that stuff. They would not be able to transform into dragons and would resemble their other parent. I would imagine that a lot of elves have some dragon blood in them. We would have to discuss what dragon traits you'd like your character to have. As the Hotaru were designed as a sort of elf-dragon cross, I don't want to encroach on the same territory by throwing in half-dragons; however, most of the races on Synn can interbreed, so it's not as if there wouldn't be some half-dragons running around. | |

| Re: circus bad guys I'm not really sure. I have been finding it difficult to rp on the forum for a while now, which is why I just decided to only do the dragon wars one. I much prefer doing one-on-one rp in real time because it helps shore up the atmosphere of a story instead of the equivalent of trying to read a book one paragraph every couple of days.
If you are available to meet on messenger or something to talk about the characters, then sure, that would be much easier, but otherwise it would be a struggle for me (concentration issues are a big issue for me).
