Village Rose OOC Empty
PostSubject: Village Rose OOC   Village Rose OOC EmptyTue Dec 22, 2009 1:44 pm

I have a plot bunny. Crying or Very sad It's one of those brain suckers, so I decided to let it loose on you all. Twisted Evil

Village Rose is a brick building which sits off state route 11, shielded from the road by a curtain of happy evergreens. From the highway, the only indication of the hospital's existence is the battered exit sign, which from the looks of it hasn't been changed since the 1950's.

Once off the exit and through the trees, a high, barbed-wire fence is found following the road at a discrete distance all the way to the main gate. There's no turn off; the fence ends on either end of a gateway framed by brick posts. What once might have been bronze lions gaze down upon the road from their pedestals.

The old gatehouse is made of ivy-covered stone, with a simple, wooden traffic gate. The guard on duty is a man roughly middle-age, who wears a revolver on his hip as if he was born with it there. From the driver's seat of the car, a rifle can clearly be seen leaning against the wall inside the gatehouse. The security cameras and computers are all state of the art, and if you look behind you, you can see that the fence has a wheeled gate which can be pulled closed to completely seal the exit.

The guard's name is L. Russell and he checks the IDs of everyone in the vehicle, logging identifying information into the computer's visitor's log. An automatic notification is sent via email to the big house you can see on top of a hill in the distance. On this side of the fence, there are no trees, no shrubbery taller than knee-high. The road swoops through shallow dips and bumps in a leisurely, curving path up to the house, a building that grows larger the closer you get.

Signs point towards visitor's parking beside the wide, looping drop-off in front of the main doors. There aren't many cars parked, making the solid, brick building seem even more imposing, looming over you as you climb the short flight of stairs leading inside.

Two people await you on the other side of the dual double-doors. An older lady sits behind a huge, mahogany desk and distributes your visitor badges while the other, a man with hair growing gray at the temples and a squint introduces himself as Doctor Saldovar, assistant supervisor for Village Rose Psychiatric Facility, and your guide during your visit.

The waiting room has plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs, fairly current magazines to peruse, a TV hanging in the corner set to some news channel, a coffee service set up on a table by the desk, and signs indicating restrooms. The walls are painted in pastel colors and the rug is plush and thick. You feel instantly at ease.

There are multiple doors leading out of the waiting area, all locked, as your guide explains. There's the office behind the desk for the admin and other staff, a door to East and West leading to each wing, and additional doors to the elevator, stairs, and corridors through the heart of the facility. There are two floors, plus a basement, where the service supplies are kept and where such necessary items as the laundry and maintenance bays.

The hospital is designed in a U-shape, patients segregated men in the West Wing and women in the East. The high-security area is at the end, on the second floor of each wing. In the middle of the U is the joint courtyard where all patients are encouraged to take daily exercise. There's even a small garden on the far side. The ground floor staffs the hospital's infirmary, library, cafeteria, staff offices, and therapy rooms. Village Rose boasts some of the most prestigious psychiatrists and physical therapists anywhere in the state.

The patients sleep in 6, 8, or 10-person bays, with the patients in each group staying together at all times except for individual therapy sessions as needed. This way, they have the opportunity to form friendships and interact with others, all of the same mental capacity.

You go upstairs first. The elevator opens onto a wide, open lounge-style room similar to the waiting room downstairs (minus a few amenities). This is one of the recreation areas for the patients and there are a few here. Two men sit by a window playing chess, others cluster around a very battered and old TV, another sits rocking aimlessly in a rocking chair. Two orderlies in their white uniforms watch over the patients. They smile, friendly-like as you pass by.

You wander along the second floor, passing other lounges and rec rooms, some empty and some not. They are of varying sizes and types, some resembling a kindergarten classroom and some a bare, padded room filled with padded geometric shapes. Doctor Saldovar explains that each room was designed with the patients' needs in mind. For example, the padded room was for the patients with anger control issues to express their rage without harming either themselves or others.

Passing through the main section, you reach the high security ward. Your guide hands his badge to the guard on this side of the thick door, and each of you do the same. The guard scans each badge and hands them back before unlocking the door, which slides open to reveal a small room and an identical door on the far side. Cameras mounted above each door watch your every move. You step inside, following your escort, and the door behind you closes completely before the door on the other side opens.

There is yet another gate, this time made of bars, which separates the guard by the door with the rest of the wing. You scan your badges again and the gate clicks open for you to pass. In here, the rooms are individual, with bathroom facilities included. You can peer through the reinforced glass windows at the rooms, and the doctor opens an empty one for you to take a closer look. There's not much to differentiate the rooms here from what you've already seen, but everything is padded, there are no sharp corners, cords, any kind of electrical outlet, and only small windows set high above the floor. The light is a central lamp in the ceiling, set to an automatic timer.

There aren't many patients here and you pass through quickly, taking the elevator down on the far side (through a repeat of the security measures), that opens onto a smaller version of the waiting room from the front of the facility. The windows here have bars, and the furniture is bolted to the floor. Doctor Saldovar explains that the high security ward is for extremely dangerous patients, but that they specialize in mild-to-moderate cases so they see few of them. This little waiting area you are in now is for check-in of those patients so they don't have to be moved through the rest of the hospital.

You go outside from here through yet another solidly guarded door, stepping out into the courtyard. Even though snow covers the ground, there are many patients out here, throwing snowballs, meandering lazily, or just sitting on the benches scattered here and there. A dozen staff members watch over them.

The paths are carefully shoveled clear of snow and liberally sprinkled with sand for traction. Your escort takes you along the curving path, greeting his patients cheerfully, and you enter the facility again through the cafeteria. Now you get to see the rest of the rooms briefly mentioned before, winding up back in the waiting room at the entrance. Doctor Saldovar will answer all your questions and quote the statistics, leaving you feeling impressed by the level of comfort, care, and security. The clean, friendly environment, you feel, is the perfect location for your struggling client or family member. They'll get the personal attention they need to help them and will learn coping skills allowing them to rejoin society. Your money is well spent here.

"So," the good doctor asks, "when shall we schedule a preliminary evaluation?"

And so ends your introduction to Village Rose, home to the mentally unstable. You've been told this is the best psychiatric facility in the state, maybe the nation, and you might have come a long way to place your friend/family member/client here. It's expensive and exclusive, and you're looking forward to no longer dealing with this problem that has landed in your lap.

This is the OOC thread for Village Rose.

Rules:

1. PM all char bios to me before posting here so that we can discuss
2. One char per person
3. This is a real-life RP
4. Good grammar and spelling is a must
6. Meta-Gaming will get you booted. PM me if you are unfamiliar with this term
7. No double-posting, unless you PM me first
8. All chars must be human
9. More to come (if we need them)

IC Thread will be here.
Adult Thread will be here.

The world setting is Real-Life, circa 2000 A.D. The hospital is randomly placed in New England, U.S.A. If you want your char to come from somewhere else, then please make sure you include a detailed history that explains why they're being sent here.

All our characters will be members of Group 19, nick-named by the staff as the "they're coming to take me away" Group. This means that all our chars have a psychosis where something is trying to get them. The 'something' must be supernatural in nature (like monsters, aliens, etc).

In addition, the psychosis must have one physical manifestation and one indicator. you'll see what I mean when I get my char's bio up.

As far as the rest of the world is concerned, Village Rose is the best thing since sliced bread for the mentally unsound. The patients aren't generally aware enough to care much -- our chars are aware, intelligent people. They're just convinced that something is out to get them.

Village Rose OOC Empty
PostSubject: Re: Village Rose OOC   Village Rose OOC EmptyTue Dec 22, 2009 1:52 pm

Name: Sebastian Harris

Age: 28

Physical Description: Sebastian is a fairly average, white male. He has blue eyes that have served him well over the years. Unfortunately, it would seem that the color has been leeching from them of late. Now they're a silvery, pale blue. His hair is a dark russet color with a tendency to fluffy waves. The only escape from the constant bed-head is to keep it cut very short, or grow it long. Sebastian preferred it long, but the doctors made him cut it. A national competitor in triathalons, Sebastian has worked very hard to stay fit. His dream has always been to qualify for (and go to) the Olympics. Unfortunately, he's on the small, slim side at just under 5 ft 8 in. He also thinks he has weird, hairy hobbit feet.

Personality: A hard-working, competent salesman for a chemical company, Sebastian was laid-back, energetic, and always up for a good time. He was quick to laugh, quick to temper, but also quick to forgive. A lover of technology, he was always into the next big thing: internet, blackberrys, i-phones, you name it, he had it soon after it came out. Trustworthy and dependable, he's the last person their family ever expected to go over the deep end.

Background: For a few months, Sebastian was famous. Or, rather, infamous. The police were called due to screams emanating from Sebastian's apartment. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until they reached the bedroom. Blood had soaked into the rug, and the mangled, mutilated body of a six year-old girl (one of his nieces whom he was babysitting) was found under Sebastian's bed. The murder weapon was never found. The police found Sebastian huddled in a corner of his shower, eyes wide open and hoarse from screaming. The water was running and he was hypothermic, the water red from the blood staining his clothes and body.

Sebastian didn't speak for almost two months, and since then it's been a stream of what the doctors call Acute Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, which only seems to be getting worse. They're not sure if Sebastian murdered his niece or was merely a witness, but he's clearly insane now. The case is still open, and Sebastian is still a "person of interest" but the trail has gone cold.

Sebastian has been at Village Rose a year now, sent there as soon as the hospital determined his injuries were not life-threatening. He spent the first four months in solitary (in the high-security ward), moved to the general ward once he started talking and seemed to come back to himself (mostly, anyway).

Psychosis: Monsters under the bed

Manifestation: Long, slash-marks from knee to ankles, lacerations on the bottoms of his feet. These, Sebastian asserts, is from the monsters. They wait beneath the bed, waiting for him to put his feet down and then grab his ankles, trying to drag him through a gateway into their world and devour him.

Indicator: The dark. The monsters only attack at night, when Sebastian is alone.

Village Rose OOC Empty
PostSubject: Re: Village Rose OOC   Village Rose OOC EmptyWed Dec 23, 2009 5:08 pm

Name: Rafe Blackwell

Age: 26

Physical Description: He's about 6' 7" tall, too tall to go through doorways so he usually has to stoop down. He isn't actually all that thin, built more like a racehorse, with fine structure, and powerful corded muscles. High cheekbones and high eyebrows give him an innocent look, but his green eyes speak volumes of his world-wearyness. He's got long piano hands with manicured nails and kept cuticles. He keeps his platinum hair long and will fight any who try to take it from him. He likes to keep things around the places that get bitten, usually scarves, long sleeves, turtlenecks, and a variety of other things to keep off the vampire klingons.

Personality: Open and outgoing, he was happy and bright and he was artistic, he loved to paint, and write, and draw, and carve, and he loved to play the organ, and the strings. He was enthusiastic, he was definitely well liked, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was kind and good natured, and honest, well, he doesn't talk so it's really hard for him to lie. A mute since birth, he's learned sign, but most folks don't know sign, so he has issues carrying a conversation. But he has his friends and his group that he can hang out with. He knew people and was happy, but then the nightmares started and things go all to hell.

Background: As a mute he does have a bit of difficulty communicating with people who can talk, but he did all right, he was a happy, middle-class white boy. Good family, who thought the world of him and a good job, a good job, a little boring sometimes, but you know. Then came the nightmares.

Short at first, he'd wake up, instantly, with no recollection of what happened, just being really cold. Then they started to be more frequent, and more violent, he'd wake up screaming silently and shivering, covered in a cold sweat. Worried, his parents and friends convinced him to go to a therapist.

What a disaster. Starting with the therapist not knowing how to communicate. Wow. Irritated with a fruitless session he refused to go to another 'quack doctor' with 'no ability to fucking communicate'. Of course his mother was scandalized with his word choice, but if he was paying someone to talk to him, they had better bloody well speak his language, or provide someone who did.

After the session the nightmares became worse, and worse, until he was terrified of sleeping, he couldn't bear to go to sleep. He took a sabbatical from work, but the nightmares became even worse, and finally they followed him into the waking world. It was only then that he could see the faces of his deepest fears. Vampiric Klingons. How they managed to manifest was a mystery, he'd never seen an episode of Star Trek a day in his life, but there they were, after him. For no explainable reason.

The only thing he remembered about the first time that he saw them, were their faces, Vampire Klingons, really? And he remembered his friends, and he remembered the blood and the bites, and the doctor telling him it was all in his head. The hell it was.

Three days later he was taken to Village Rose, to recover, for a few weeks. One year later, one year later, he's still in a too-small bed, still in the psych ward, still chased by the frost and ice, and still being haunted by the vampire klingons. Things went from bad to worse, he won't be alone, he's terrified of being alone, and won't stand for it. The vampire klingons come when he's alone., and now, sometimes, they come with others there! It wasn't fair! One year, he'd been here. One year.

Psychosis: He's terrified of the Vampire Klingons that are going to get him.

Manifestation: Bite marks over his wrists, his throat, the insides of his elbows and occasionally his thighs. Mostly places where there are thick arteries or veins.

Indicator: It gets really cold in his area and he sees frost start to climb up his bed and over his sheets.

Village Rose OOC Empty
PostSubject: Re: Village Rose OOC   Village Rose OOC EmptyWed Dec 23, 2009 10:24 pm

Name: Albert Parker

Age: 27

Physical Description: Albert is not the biggest of men, standing at only about 5’7 and 130 lbs. He at one point had tan skin, but it has paled significantly from years of hiding. His black hair is about shoulder length and straight, since he hasn’t sat still long enough for the doctors to cut it. Afraid to hurt him while he flailed and fought, they let him keep it. And his chocolate eyes are forever darting this way and that, ready to catch the slightest suspicious movement.

Personality: Albert was a family man, and outgoing, friendly man. He always had something to say or some advice. And despite the time that his job took, he always managed to be there as a father to his daughter and a husband to his wife. He had managed the delicate balance that few could perfect. He was happy, he was stubborn, and everything was logical. There was an explanation and a reason for everything. And then there was the accident. He withdrew from the world, speaking only when he had to and no more. By the time of the attack, he was opening up more to small talk, but the attack sent his withdrawn manners right back into habit.

Background: Al used to be a very functional young man. He had a great life: a steady job as a business lawyer, a wife, and a beautiful daughter. It was picturesque really.

That is, until the night of the accident. They were on their way home from Christmas vacation, when something walked out into the middle of the lane. He couldn’t see it clearly, but it appeared to be a blurry shadow figure. He swerved around it, but lost control of his vehicle on the ice. It flipped off the side of the road and rolled, until the car practically wrapped itself around a tree. His family died instantly, but he was still conscious. He was injured, but aware enough to see deep dark shadows dragging away the likenesses of his wife and daughter. The girls struggled, that’s what he told the authorities, but they were taken away and only he had managed to escape. The shadows had disappeared as another driver, a good Samaritan, was able to rescue him from the car.

The bodies of his wife and daughter were never recovered. All that was found was the scrap metal that used to be his car. At the insistence of his doctor, he was taken in by his sister, a nurse who helped him fall back into life again. Or try to, at least. She got him a less demanding job and set him up in her own guest house. To this day, he refuses to drive.

He did not know what the creeping shadows wanted and he tried to keep his mouth shut about them after the initial drama when he’d tried to tell his sister. She’d immediately gotten him an appointment with a psychologist. The doctor wouldn’t believe him, even when the Shadows were in the room with them, but their sessions continued, even after Al deemed it useless to try to convince the doctor of the existence of his stalkers.

Time passed and he was able to get a small apartment of his own that was within walking distance of his job. It was not a week after moving in that his mental state took a turn for the worse.

He’d closed one night, even though the dark made him uncomfortable, he had hoped that he really was just paranoid (and an 8pm closing time wasn’t really that late). Unfortunately, that was not the case, the shadows tailed him until he was almost home. Just around the corner, actually. He saw the Shadow coming and froze, a sudden chill passing through him. Then he heard the Voice, a dreadful voice. It told him what he’d suspected all along. Death was after him, he should have died with his family. The Voice whispered dreadful things while the Shadow reached into his chest and tried to pull his soul directly out of his body. That was when he screamed. Hoping, praying that his own shouts would drown out the Voice and that the Shadow would stop.

He was found moments later bleeding, twitching and whimpering. He did not come back from that. The doctors could not tell what had caused the bleeding; there were no cuts or disease that could have explained the blood dripping from his nose, mouth, and ears. His psychologist suggested that it was stress related and recommended more meetings and he was moved back in with his sister. This time he didn’t back off, insisting that he was attacked and that Death wanted his soul. That was clearly why the Shadows had been watching him all this time! They’d been waiting for the right moment! He was attacked twice more within the next month, before his sister decided it was time to let a group of professionals handle it. She checked him into Village Rose; a renowned psychiatric facility that she hoped would ease his troubled mind. But until they found a way to trick Death, there would be no easing Al. They did deem him sane enough to go directly into a group setting, so he was not left alone for the month he’d been there. Admittedly the first couple weeks were spent in a different area, for testing. They were determined not to believe that the Shadows made him bleed when they tried to pull his soul from his body. Eventually, he’d been put in Group 19 with others who thought something crazy were after them. There was difference, though no one else could see it. He wasn’t crazy. He was a lawyer for chrissakes. Lawyers had to have very stable minds to do their job properly.

Psychosis: Death is after him. After evading the accident that took his family, he is sure that Death wants to “finish the job” and take him too.

Manifestation: Unexplained and sudden bleeding from the nose, gums and ears that is usually preceded by a waking terror (which often includes seizure-like symptoms and uncontrolled screaming).

Indicator: He sees free-standing shadows, lurking in and around corners or sometimes walking towards him just before an attack occurs.
